Your family’s story is not our content.

StorySitting is private by default. We use family material to arrange and produce the story the family requested. We do not sell it, publish it, clone a storyteller’s voice, or use it to train a general-purpose AI model without a separate, explicit opt-in.

Who controls what

The person paying for a Story Start is the sponsor. The person whose voice and memories are recorded is the storyteller. A sponsor may ask us to begin a permission process, but cannot consent to AI contact, recording, transcription, editing, or sharing on the storyteller’s behalf.

The storyteller may decline, pause, revoke permission, withhold a chapter, limit family access, or ask us not to call again. We keep a permission record so those choices remain visible.

What we collect

  • Sponsor name, email, relationship, account details, project instructions, and payment status.
  • Storyteller name, phone number, time zone, contact preference, and permission choices.
  • Call dates, connection outcomes, recordings, transcripts, and structured consent evidence.
  • Questions, photographs, captions, recipes, documents, voice notes, and corrections supplied for the private project.
  • Finished chapters, source links, people, places, dates, Story Threads, and delivery files.
  • Basic security and product-use logs needed to protect accounts and operate the service.

Stripe processes payment-card information. StorySitting receives payment tokens and transaction status, not the full card number.

How we use family material

We use it to verify permission, schedule and conduct requested calls, transcribe and edit the conversation, check names and dates, prepare a Story Drop, produce downloadable family files, respond to corrections, and support the next sitting the family deliberately orders.

Our line in the sand

We do not ask the storyteller for money, passwords, account numbers, or security answers. We do not create a voice clone or posthumous chatbot. Edited prose never replaces the source recording.

Service providers and AI processing

We use carefully selected providers for phone calls, transcription, language processing, storage, authentication, email, and payments. They receive only the information needed to perform their role and are subject to their own security and data-processing terms.

AI helps conduct disclosed interviews, transcribe speech, identify story threads, and draft edits. A human quality pass checks unsupported prose, names, dates, privacy requests, and delivery before a finished story is treated as complete.

Retention, export, and deletion

Purchased family files are made exportable so the story does not depend on StorySitting remaining online. We retain working material while a project is active and for a limited operating period afterward for corrections, delivery, security, and legal records. Payment and consent records may need to be kept longer than the creative files.

A storyteller or account owner may request deletion of eligible recordings, transcripts, uploads, and chapters. A deletion request may make later corrections, playback, or re-delivery impossible. Backups may take a limited period to cycle out.

Your choices

  • Ask what project material we hold.
  • Correct contact details and factual story errors.
  • Download purchased recordings, transcripts, chapters, and supplied files.
  • Revoke future contact or recording permission.
  • Limit or withdraw family-sharing permission.
  • Request deletion of eligible project material.
  • Ask us to add a number to the StorySitting do-not-call list.

Account holders can contact us to delete their account. If a sponsor and storyteller disagree, StorySitting prioritizes the storyteller’s control over their voice, identity, and unpublished material.

Security and children

We use access controls, private-by-default records, signed file access, webhook verification, and provider security features appropriate to the service. No system is invulnerable, so portable family exports remain part of the product.

StorySitting is intended for adults. Do not create a Story Start for a minor.
