So we start it for you. A patient interviewer named Kaylie calls your loved one, says plainly that she’s a recorded AI and that you arranged this, and asks whether they’d like to share some stories. If they say no, we stop and we tell you. If they say yes, someone finally sits and listens.

Kaylie is a recorded AI interviewer. She says so herself, in her opening sentences. She is not a person and she never pretends to be a family member.
We call your loved one — not the other way around. There is nothing for them to set up.
Nothing continues without their yes, including permission to record. If they’re unsure, we stop.
The recording is your family’s. We use it to write the book and nothing else, and we delete it on request.

What if they say no?

Then we stop, and we tell you. No second attempt, no talking them into it. The $5 covers the call we made; the $79 is never charged. You’ll have spent five dollars and learned something you couldn’t have learned any other way.

Isn’t an AI calling my elderly parent kind of creepy?

It would be if we hid it. We don’t. Kaylie says she’s a recorded AI interviewer in her opening sentences, before anything else happens, and says it again plainly if they ask. She never claims to be a person and never claims to be family.

The reason it works is that it removes the pressure. A lot of people find it easier to talk at length to a patient stranger with nowhere else to be than to perform for their own kids holding up a phone.

They’re hard of hearing, or suspicious of strange numbers.

Tell us in the form, or reply to your confirmation email. Kaylie speaks slowly and waits a long time before assuming someone has finished a sentence — she’s deliberately built to be patient with older voices. If they screen unknown numbers, the best thing you can do is warn them a call is coming. Plenty of families prefer exactly that.

Do I have to tell them I bought it?

Up to you, and either way works. Kaylie names you as the person who arranged it — that’s what makes it land as a gift rather than a cold call. Some families tell them first; some let the call be the surprise.

How long does the whole thing take?

The first call is short — five to eight minutes, just hello and setting up a time. The interview itself is about half an hour, whenever suits them. Then we write it, usually call once more for small missing details, and send you the chapters. Figure about a week. We do this by hand, so it isn’t instant — that’s rather the point.

Is it recorded? Who else can hear it?

Yes, and we ask their permission out loud before recording anything. If they say no to recording, we stop. The recording and the writing are your family’s — we use them to make the book and nothing else. We don’t sell them, publish them, or train anything on them, and we’ll delete them if you ask.

Is this a subscription?

No. $5 to start, $79 if they say yes, and $79 for any further call you ask for. Nothing recurring, nothing to cancel. We save your card so we don’t make you type it again — and we charge it only for the things above.

Can I get a printed book?

Yes, once there are enough chapters to bind — print-on-demand hardcover, around $89. It isn’t a button on this page yet: ask and we’ll arrange it. The digital chapters are always included.

Who is actually behind this?

A very small company — me, mostly. StorySitting is run by AMF LLC out of Wilkinson, Indiana. I read every email that comes in and I handle these orders personally, one family at a time. That’s why it costs $79 and not $18,000, and it’s also why I’d rather tell you that than pretend to be a big operation. — Adam
