StorySitting records family stories over the phone and turns them into books. That means we hold some of the most personal things people say. Here is exactly what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

What we collect

From you, the person who signs up: your name, email and mobile number; your storyteller's name, phone number and how they're related to you; anything you tell us you'd love to hear about; and, if you pay, a record of the payment (our payment processor, Stripe, handles your card; we never see the full number).
From the calls: the audio recording, a written transcript, and the chapter we write from it. On the first call we also record your OK and your storyteller's own yes, in their words.
For the book: photos and captions you upload, your foreword and dedication, and the names and addresses the copies are shipped to. We remove location and camera data from photos when you upload them.
If you ask for a holiday reminder: your email address, which guide you signed up from, and when. We use it only for that reminder and delete it if you unsubscribe.
Technical records: when calls happen and how long they last, and the time, address and browser used to sign up, so we can show who agreed to what. Our web server also keeps standard access logs (address, page, browser) for about two weeks, for security and to count visits. We don't use advertising trackers.

How it's used

To make the calls, write the chapters and send them to you.
To keep a record of consent: who said yes, when, and on which recording.
To email you about your storyteller's calls and stories. No marketing lists.

We never sell your information, never publish family stories, and never use your family's recordings or stories to train AI models.

Who else touches it

A few companies help us run the service, and only get what they need to do their part:

Retell AI places the calls, runs Kaylie's voice and produces the transcript.
Anthropic helps write each chapter from the transcript.
Stripe processes payments.
Our printer receives the book file and the shipping addresses, only to print and ship the copies.

Recordings, transcripts and chapters are stored on our own server in the United States.

Your storyteller is in charge

At the end of each call, Kaylie asks whether the person who signed up may hear that story. If they say no, we keep it private: you'll be told a story was recorded, not what it was. They can stop any call, refuse any question, and ask never to be called again. We keep a do-not-call list and honor it immediately.

Keeping and deleting

We keep recordings, transcripts and chapters for as long as your family wants them, so you can come back to them. You can download them from your private page at any time. To delete everything about you or your storyteller, email hello@storysitting.com from the address you signed up with, or ask your storyteller to tell Kaylie. We delete it within 30 days, except the minimum we must keep for payment and legal records.

Children

StorySitting is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
